A Welcome Letter from the Athletic Director

On behalf of the CCS Athletic Department, I want to welcome all students to participate in our interscholastic sports programs. Sports are an excellent way to grow emotionally and spiritually as an individual.  As a graduate of Southwood High School, I know that athletics played a major role in preparing me for college and the adult world. Because of sports, lessons from my coaches, and the games I played, I developed skills in time management, problem solving, delegation, motivation, and team building.

The CCS Athletic Department believes that the student athlete’s pursuits on the field should be equally measured by those off the field. A Cornerstone Warrior should pursue personal and spiritual growth through academic work, team experiences, and be an ambassador for our school.  Warriors should maintain a sense of ethical responsibility. The department strives to maintain an outstanding athletics program conducted in a manner that sets an example for good sportsmanship.  We expect all who choose to participate in our sports programs to be responsible student-athletes.  One of our primary goals is their success and achievement in their education.

As a member of the CCS Warrior’s athletic family, our expectations for you are similar to your own family’s expectations. Act responsibly as you represent our school.  Remember that you are an ambassador for all that who attend Cornerstone Christian Schools. How you act and react to situations not only reflects on you, but is also a reflection on your parents, peers and coaches. As a student athlete, you have academic responsibilities in addition to your athletic role. Study, participate in class, practice hard, be a positive influence on your classmates, and do your best to excel in all things. Take pride in the opportunity to represent the Warriors in a first class manner.

Please remember that the coaches and administrators are here for you. Our goal is to help you succeed in life. Once you have graduated, we hope you will remain involved with the school as a member of the Cornerstone Christian Schools Family!

Meet and Greet Between Texas Longhorn Football Stars

It was a joyful reunion between Texas Longhorns football stars, Phillip Geiggar, Stevie Lee and CCS Head Varsity Football Coach Abram, who were all high school teammates during the coaching leadership of Mr. Johnny Booty, who is now the new Sports Ministry Director of Cornerstone. Evangel Christian School in Louisiana was the #1 ranked football team in the nation for several years. All three players went on to having a successful football career respectively both in high school and in college. During a brief talk at practice, Mr. Geiggar and Mr. Lee shared with the CCS Varsity football team important fundamentals and important life-lessons gleaned throughout their career!

Phillip Geiggar played high school football at Evangel Christian in Louisiana. Phillip started as a freshman and was one of the only players in the history of high school football to go 60-0, never losing a game in his 4 year career. He was also an All-American and during his senior year, lead Evangel to the #1 ranking football team in the nation. Phillip went on to start at the University of Texas as a safety.

Stevie Lee was a 6'5, 320-pound All-American defensive tackle out of Evangel Christian in Louisiana. Stevie was a dominating force that helped lead Evangel to a perfect 60-0 record and national championship in 1999. Stevie signed and went on to play for the Texas Longhorns and is now a successful businessman, a great husband and father of two daughters.
