Cross Country and Track/Field Coach
Coach Jimmy Dykes was born and raised in Irving, Texas. After graduating from high school, he attended Texas Lutheran College and played football for the Bulldogs. After graduating from college in 1981, he was hired to coach and teach at Judson Independent School District, where he spent the first 27 years of his career. As a part of the Judson football staff, his achievements included winning 6 State titles in football and coaching 11 state title games. He was also first assistant coach of the Rocket Track team that won 24 straight district championships and 13 regional championships and 1 runner up at the state meet. He coached 4 state champions in the high jump and one state champion that jumped 7’3”. After leaving Judson in 2004, he became the head cross country coach and assistant track coach at Wagner high school in 2005, where his team won district title his last year there. After leaving Wagner in 2008, he went to Johnson high school in NEISD and became the head cross country coach and head girls track coach. In his second year, the Girls Cross Country team won the district title and placed 4th at the regional meet.
He retired from education after leaving Johnson but soon returned after six months, to teaching and coaching at San Antonio Christian, SACS for 3.5 years, before coming to CCS in 2015. After one year, he took a coaching and Athletic Director position in Williston, North Dakota to be closer to his family who lived there. He returned with his family to Cornerstone Christian Schools two years later in 2017. Since being at CCS, he has coached football, cross country, track and currently teach world history.
Coach Dykes personal accomplishments include, running over 50 marathons, competing in the Boston Marathon over 9 times and being selected on numerous occasions as a pacer for the Austin Marathon. He also has competed in many triathlons. In 2005 and 2007, Coach Dykes competed in the Lake Placid Ironman, in New York. In 2019, he was inducted into The Judson Football and Track Hall of Honor!
