History comes to life at CCS

CCS 6th grader Reese Piersol’s “Lunch With a Signer” essay will advance to the state competition after she won the San Antonio contest.

The Daughters of the American Revolution "Lunch With A Signer" essay contest requires 5th-8th grade students to write a 300- to1,000-word essay where they imagine dining with a Declaration of Independence signer, exploring their contributions to American independence, in anticipation of the 250th anniversary on July 4, 2026.

Congratulations, Reese!

Your Weekly Word

Psalm 39:4-5

“Show me, Lord, my life’s end
    and the number of my days;
    let me know how fleeting my life is.
You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
    the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath,
    even those who seem secure.”

Amid big exams and major academic decisions, we must remember that elements of earthly life are not eternal and do not matter as much as we think they do. Of course, we are instructed to take care of our earthly life but remember that our lives here are fleeting and are small in the grand scheme of things. The exams, relationship issues, college decisions, and the worries that are always on our minds are minor in comparison to the eternal life we have in front of us. Whether the worry be the biggest secret or burden of your life, or what your outfit will be this weekend, it is a minor issue in God’s eyes, and He will give us reassurance. Even our entire life is small in the eyes of God, not as something insignificant, but rather tiny compared to His eternal plan. With this in mind, it is important to know that our lives are fragile; tomorrow’s life is not promised. People think that the things that they see on the news -- whether it be tragic or positive -- can’t happen to them, but really, anything can happen. Part of the human experience is knowing that your breaths are numbered and living as such, with perseverance, joy, and a good measure of what is really significant, focusing on our spirit rather than our flesh.
