Mrs. K. Juton Buescher, Bible 8 & Bible 9 Teacher

Q. How long have you been in education?
A. I am completing my 33rd year in education. Throughout my career, I have taught Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th Advanced English Language Arts, 8th Advanced English Language Arts, 9th Advanced English I, 10th Advanced English II, 12th Grade English IV (all public education), and now 8th and 9th Grade Bible at CCS.

Q. What adjectives would your friends use to describe you?
A. My friends would probably describe me as funny, creative, hard-working, ultra-organized, family-oriented, and a true task-completer. I absolutely love teaching, entertaining, decorating, and giving thoughtful gifts to others. I enjoy making learning exciting and memorable, and I love creating welcoming spaces both in my classroom and at home. One thing my friends would definitely tell you is that I hate cooking—but I LOVE hosting and spending time with family and friends!

Q. What is your favorite, most memorable, or funniest moment in the classroom?
A. There have been so many unforgettable moments over the years! One of my sweetest memories was when my 4th grade students surprised me with a baby shower when I was pregnant with my daughter, Brittani. I will never forget their excitement and love. I’ve also been incredibly honored to be recognized as Teacher of the Year during both my elementary and high school teaching years, as well as being recognized in San Antonio Sports’ Beyond the Game. One of the greatest blessings in my career was moving to the feeder middle school and getting to teach some of my students for two years in a row. I’ve also had many “full-circle” moments in education. One of my former 5th grade students became a teacher and later led staff development sessions that I attended! Another special blessing is that my daughter and I now teach together at CCS. Even more amazing, one of my dearest teacher friends, Mrs. Balido, once hosted a baby shower for my daughter—and now she serves as Brittani’s mentor teacher as they both teach 1st grade together at CCS.

Q. What is your hidden talent or something students might be surprised to know about you?
A. Students are usually surprised to learn that I still know my multiplication facts all the way through 12 × 12! They may also be shocked to know that I go to Starbucks every single school day, I never wear tennis shoes, and I love thrifting for unique lamps for my classroom and home. Another fun fact is that I’ve worked every summer supporting students academically except for one. I truly love education and hope to teach for a total of 40–50 years!

Q. What do you hope students take away from your class/instruction?
A. More than anything, I want my students to understand that God created each of them uniquely and brilliantly. I want them to know they are capable of accomplishing amazing things through faith in God and a strong work ethic. I hope students leave my class spreading and enriching the lives of others through the Word of God and the Gospel while growing in faith, confidence, and kindness. I also hope they value hard work and understand that learning is a lifelong gift.

Q. What do you do to relax or enjoy your time outside of school?
A. Outside of school, I love reading, thrifting, decorating, shopping, organizing, and traveling with family and friends. Spending quality time with the people I love is one of my greatest joys. I especially enjoy having dinner with friends and family, going on coffee dates, entertaining, finding creative ideas for my classroom, and discovering unique treasures while thrifting. Organizing is also one of my favorite hobbies—maybe one day I will become a professional organizer!

Q. What is your favorite Bible verse?
A. Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Q. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
A.

One of the most challenging years of my teaching career was actually my very first year. I taught English Language Arts to students learning English as their second language. Many students' parents did not speak English, and one of my students was blind. It could have been overwhelming, but God always provides exactly what we need. My husband, who is fluent in Spanish, attended all of my parent/teacher conferences to help communicate with families, and my student who was blind became one of my greatest teaching assistants by helping explain academic concepts in Spanish when I needed support. That experience taught me that every student has incredible God-given gifts, and sometimes the teacher learns just as much as the students do. Experiences like those reminded me that teaching has always been much more than a career to me—it has been deeply connected to relationships, faith, and family. Those same values continue to shape my life both inside and outside of the classroom. I have also been blessed to share life with my amazing husband, Ron, for almost 36 years this December. We met in college while earning our Business Administration degrees in Marketing. Later, while living in the Valley, I returned to college to earn my teaching certification and eventually my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Although my educational journey has taken me in many directions, being in the classroom with students will always have my heart. One of my greatest joys outside of teaching is being half of the “Lolli and Pops” duo to our beautiful granddaughters, Charlotte and Georgia. Family has always been at the center of my life, and being their Lolli is truly one of my many of God’s sweetest blessings.
