Tanisha Smith, Secondary Theatre Teacher

Q. How long have you been in education?
A. 10 years
Q. What adjectives would your friends use to describe you?
A. responsible, silly, fun, chill, amiable, bubbly, down to earth, direct, kind, creative, talented
Q. What is your favorite, most memorable, or funniest moment in the classroom?
A. Meaningful: This fall I was able to have a moment with my students at the end of a late rehearsal at the Praise Center. We lowered the lights, played worship music, and prayed over each other and our future audience. It was a special time to refocus on who we really perform for and to support each other in a stressful time.Funny: We have a tradition of doing one run-through of the show as an "overdramatic speed through." We go straight through the entire show, VERY fast, and do everything way over the top! It gets everyone out of their funk of having done the show over and over, inspires additional acting and movement choices, and is absolutely hilarious!
Q. What is your hidden talent or something students might be surprised to know about you?
A. I can sing opera, jazz and musical theatre
Q. What do you hope students take away from your class/instruction?
A. Identity in Christ, empathy, confidence, creativity and a love and appreciation for the arts
Q. What do you do to relax or enjoy your time outside of school?
A. Spend time outdoors with my family, audiobooks and binging TV shows.
Q. What is your favorite Bible verse?
A. Isaiah 40: 26-31: “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing. Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, ‘My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God’? Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Q. Is there something else you would like to add that hasn’t been asked?
A. I'm a mom! I have two awesome kids, ages 7 and 4
