Being wanted versus needed means God wants a relationship with you. Let that sink in for a moment…He WANTS this. This speaks to God’s affection and desire for mankind. It has been a said, that a person is judged by how they treat others who can neither help them or hurt them. We don’t complete Him in some way. The quality of His day is not contingent on we feel about Him. He is completely self-sustained and independent from any other influence or source. When I asked my then, girlfriend, to marry me she said yes. However, hypothetically, what if she told me yes and I was the last man on the planet? Is that real love or desperation? Instead she told me yes all while having potentially numerous other guys she could have pursued. You see, true love is demonstrated best when it finds its way through a multitude of choices, not desperation. God could have chosen or created literally any object He wanted to affiliate with or do nothing at all. Instead He chose to create us. However, here’s the cool part…He then decided to willingly fellowship with us. He listens to us, heals us, answers our prayers, fills our lives with joy and is in proximity to His creation at all times.
The psalmist captures the very essence of this in Psalm 8. Take a look here. “Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory in the heavens. Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
From the very beginnings, in Genesis, when God entered into fellowship with Adam and Eve until this very day, God reminds we are not needed. We’re wanted. If He truly “needed” us then is that love, or merely desperate efforts of a bored deity? None of technically “need” anyone. Instead God made us creatures oriented to fellowship. He made us in a way that encourages us to seek one another out.
Cornerstone Christian Schools teaches our students about Godly, healthy relationships. We remind students only God can complete us. No other person or object can ever take that place. Because we are not God, our approach to Him is therefore slightly different than His approach to us. We DO need Him to complete us and make us whole. Our students are taught that life without Him isn’t really living, but merely existing. CCS serves as a beacon of God’s word we are there to remind our kids, every day for 9 months, they are not needed, they’re wanted!
