Meet the Administration
|
Superintendent Dr. Jerry Eshleman came to Cornerstone Christian Schools from Oral Roberts University where he was a professor in the College of Education and Coordinator of the Cooperative Learning Center. Dr. Eshleman has served in education in positions ranging from teaching to administration and at levels from elementary through the university. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian School Administration and Teaching from Central Bible College, and a Master of Arts in Education Administration from Oral Roberts University. Jerry completed his doctorate and earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Oklahoma State University.
He and his wife Jenny have a son together named Austin. Aside from spending time with his family, Jerry can be found mountain biking and trail running in the Texas hill country. As he continues to serve at CCS, Dr. Eshleman’s goal is to daily define and achieve unprecedented excellence within the CCS campus. His areas of focus include: developing the fine arts department and adding an art center and auditorium, integrating technology at all grade levels, introducing science, technology, math and engineering school wide, and also expanding Cornerstone into its own school district.

Secondary Principal Gary Gunckel served as a teacher and administrator in Oklahoma for 13 years and has been serving in his leadership role at CCS since 2008. Gary earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Evangel University, followed by a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Southern Nazarene University. Gary is married to Melissa Gunckel, and together they have two children, Troy and Leah. The Gunckels love spending time together as a family, and Gary also enjoys fishing, golf and tennis. As Gary continues to serve Cornerstone Christian Schools his desire is that the entire CCS family will honor God by striving for excellence spiritually, and that the students receive the best Christian education possible.

Elementary
Principal Steve Whewell served as an elementary principal for 10
years in Oklahoma before coming to CCS in 2010. Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts
in Education from Oral Roberts University, followed by a Master of Arts in
Curriculum Supervision and Instruction at Oklahoma State University. He created
and implemented the Kool-2B-Kind anti-bully program for elementary schools and
published an administrator’s guide under the same name. He and his wife Monika
were married in her home country, the Czech Republic. Together they have two
children, Dylan and Kami. The Whewells enjoy many outdoor family activities
such as hiking and bicycling, and especially love traveling to Europe to visit
relatives. Steve's belief is that each child at Cornerstone deserves the best
elementary experience possible, and he is committed to help parents train their
children to be God's champions.

Elementary Assistant Principal Ben Gonzales is in his second year here at Cornerstone Christian Schools Ben earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Texas A & M University - San Antonio. Ben moved to San Antonio from California after serving 12 years in the United States Marine Corps. Shortly after, he married his wife Michelle, and together they have four children, Angel, 13, Liberty, 12, Cerina, 11 and Moon, 10. The Gonzales’s enjoy many outdoor family activities such as camping, sports and traveling. Ben's belief is that each child at Cornerstone is one of Gods disciples, and he is committed to help them fulfill God’s great commission.

Dean of Students Scott Forsythe comes to CCS this year after previously serving as a pastor for nine years, and as a teacher and coach for five years. Scott earned a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Evangel University, with additional certification in elementary (1-8) with a math concentration from the University of Dayton. Scott is married to Lori, and they have two children, Kayla, 11, and Joshua, 9. Scott and Lori serve as presenters and national board members for Assemblies of God Marriage Encounter. When not spending time with his family, Scott is rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds, but ultimately desires to spend his time doing anything that reaches people for Christ.

Director of Academic Services Janelle Gustafson joined CCS in 2009 after teaching in special and regular education settings for over a decade. Janelle earned a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Evangel University, followed by a Master of Arts in Special Education from Lindenwood University. Janelle is currently pursuing a Doctorate in K-12 Educational Leadership with an emphasis in Special Education. Janelle is married to Terry, and they have two children, Collyn and Kayleigh. Janelle enjoys spending time with her family, along with scrapbooking, reading, and watching hockey. Janelle has a heart for children with learning difficulties and other special needs. Her goal is to give all children the opportunity to benefit from a Christian education.

Coordinator of Curriculum and Professional Development Jacquelyn Houston comes to Cornerstone Christian Schools after serving as Curriculum Director and Coordinator of Professional Development at Faith West Academy in Katy, TX. Jacquelyn has educational experience in both public and private schools, and has taught students from the elementary age to college level. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Boston State College in Massachusetts, and her Master of Arts in Education in Christian School Administration from Oral Roberts University. She has also done doctoral work in Educational Leadership at Oral Roberts University where she served as an adjunct instructor and university supervisor of teacher interns. She has had the privilege of helping to develop and accredit Christian schools nationally and internationally during her tenure as a school administrator and educational consultant. Jacquelyn is married to her college sweetheart, Benjamin, who is an ordained minister. Together they have three adult children and two young grandsons, all beneficiaries of Christian school education. Serving alongside other Christian school leaders and helping them maximize their effectiveness for impacting students’ lives and the world for the Kingdom of God is Jacquelyn’s passion and calling.

Marketing and Resource Development Coordinator Abby Fernandez has served at CCS since 2003, first as a teacher and coach, then as the Marketing and Resource Development Coordinator. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Texas State University, is currently working toward a Master of Science in Non-Profit Management, and is certified by the State of Texas in Journalism 8-12 and Early Childhood through fourth grade. Abby oversees internal and external branding, resource development, Alumni development and archiving and history of the school. Abby is married to Melchor Fernandez, and together they have one child, Tripp. Since she first began teaching at Cornerstone, Abby has been committed to achieving excellence in Christian education, and she supports the ministries of Cornerstone Church to their fullest extent.

Athletic Director Kyle Wills has been a part of the CCS family since the 2008 school year. Kyle had previously served as the Director of Basketball Operations at the University of Texas-San Antonio and was on the basketball coaching staff at Oral Roberts University (ORU) prior to that. While on staff at Oral Roberts, Kyle was part of three straight NCAA Tournament qualifying teams. In his time in collegiate athletics, Kyle has coached several athletes that have gone on to professional careers both overseas and in the U.S., most notably with the Spurs, Wizards, Hornets, and Bucks. Kyle earned a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Administration from ORU, where he also met his wife Danielle and together have one son, Grayson.
In his free time, Kyle loves to spend time with his family, play golf and basketball, and enjoys reading. Kyle has many goals that he would like to accomplish at CCS and he is actively working towards: aesthetically enhancing all athletic facilities, building a foundation of policies and procedures that CCS can lean on for many years to come, cultivating a sense of pride and community with all families tied to CCS, and working alongside coaches and students in their desire to make CCS a beacon of light in the community through athletics.

Director of Fine Arts Chris Kennedy came to Cornerstone Christian Schools from Cypress Woods High School where he was a Director of Theatre for three years. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Stephen F. Austin State University. Chris has an extensive background in acting and directing in plays such as The Seagull, 1984, Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, Hamlet, Harvey, Born Yesterday and Edith Stein. He has worked professionally with the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre and Cartoon Network as a voiceover actor. His students have gone on to study at prestigious schools such as Tisch School of Drama at NYU, University of Oklahoma, University of Texas and have appeared on TV shows such as iCarly. His ultimate goal is to develop a setting and program that will focus on college preparation for reasonable, respectable, God loving and productive students of the Fine Arts. Chris is very excited to be back at home at Cornerstone with his family where he was raised and became born again!

Director
of Multimedia Terry Gustafson came to CCS in October 2010 from
Cornerstone Church where he served as the Young Adults Pastor. Terry has
an extensive background in audio/video and presentation technology. Most
of his technical training came while working for Swank Audio Visual and
MediaComplete Corporation, in Nashville, TN. With a degree in Biblical
Studies from Central Bible College in 1995 he has held ministry positions in the
areas of Youth, Young Adults, Worship leader, and Associate Pastor.
Terry’s wife Janelle is also a part of the CCS administration and both of their
children, Collyn and Kayleigh, attend CCS. It is his goal to let students
know that God has a great plan and purpose for them and that nothing is
impossible with Him.
